Giant Uranid Moth (Uranidae Uraniinae Lyssa zampa)
Collected in North Point, Hong Kong on July 29, 1999.  Quite a few other specimens were observed during the next two weeks.  Most were males and pretty torn up.  The wings are quite fragile.  Reported LFP include various Endospermum species in the  Euphorbieacea family.  The larvae below were found at Tai Lung Agricultural Research Center on 13 July, 2000.


Nearly mature larvae, about 37 mm / 1.4 inches long.
They were found on Endospermum chinensis.


The cocoon was formed on 27 July, 2000.

Top and underside of a male moth.
The female is very similar, but the body is thicker.
Wingspan for this male specimen is about 92 mm / 3.6 inches
