Sphinx Moth (Sphingidae Macroglossinae Theretra pallicosta - Walker, 1856)

A single mature larva was found at Braemar Hill, North Point, Hong Kong SAR on May 26, 2000.  LFP was Aporusa dioica.



A final instar larva, about 6 cm / 2.4 inches long;
May 26, 2000


The rough surfaced pupa formed on June 6, 2000
about  5.3 cm / 2.1 inches long;


The moth eclosed August 13, 2000, but failed to unfurl its wings properly.
body length was about 4 cm / 1.6 inches.

This male moth was found at the Hollywood Hotel at the new Disney complex
April 3, 2004;  wingspan was 7.3 cm / 2.8 inches
