Bee Hawk Moth(Sphingidae Macroglossinae Cizara ardeniae - Lewin, 1805)

Found in New South Wales, Australia the first week of January, 2003, feeding on Rubiaceae Coprosma repens (Mirror Bush).


The 1st instar larva was 13 mm / 0.52 inch long.
Jan 6, 2003
(The larva was 8 mm when found.)


2nd instar was Jan 8, 2003.
The larva was 14 mm / 0.56 inches long (excluding the tail).


3rd instar was on Jan 11, 2003.
The larva was 15 mm / 0.6 inches long.


4th instarwas on Jan 15, 2003.
3.3 cm / 1.3 inches long
Note the bluish tint on the neck and tail spike.

5th instar formed on Jan 22, 2003.
3.7 cm / 1.5 inches long
