(Crambidae Odontiinae Heortia vitessoides - Moore, 1885)

MUV Light trapped in great multitudes at Kadoorie Farm & Botanic Garden on September 16, 2001.  Larvae have been observed and reared feeding on Rhus (Poison Sumac).  They are communal dwellers, as is indicated by the swarms of moths in a given area, sometimes in the hundreds and thousands.  The male and female moths look very similar.
