Great Eggfly (Nymphalidae Nymphalinae Hypolimnas bolina - Linnaeus, 1758)

Found as butterflies in Sheung Wan and North Point, Hong Kong in December, 1998 and January, 1999.  Specimens have been observed on the wing from April onward.
 


Top and underside of the male.
The wingspan was 84.7 mm / 3.3 inches.
The purple iridescence is quite extensive in the right light.
Top and underside of the female.
The wingspan was 80.4 mm / 3.2 inches.
