Two catepillars were found at Choi Sai Woo Park, North Point, Hong Kong on June 18, 2000, climbing a tree to pupate. The LFP is various kinds of Viola spp (Violets). I observed some violets growing at the base of the tree on which the caterpillars were climbing. Both caterpillars eclosed as males. A female was taken on July 4, 2003, also at Choi Sai Woo.
A nearly mature larva, about 3.4 cm / 1.3 inch
long.
The pupa, about 2.5 cm / 1 inch long.
The shiny tan areas shiny gold in appearance.
Pupation took place June 18, 2000.
