Noctuid moth (Noctuidae Catocalinae Anomis flava)

Found two larvae in Shau Kei Wan, Hong Kong, on September 14, 2001.  They were feeding on Malvaceae Sida rhombifolia (Sida Hemp), living in leaf tubes rolled up on the leaf edges in younger stages or rolling up about half a leaf from the tip in later stages, with some fras being left in the tube.

Anomis flava
Nearly mature larva, about 2.9 cm / 1.1 inches long.

The cocoon is formed inside two leaves overlapped together
or else inside the leaf roll, depending on the plant's condition.


The pupa was formed on Sept 18, 2001.


Moth in rest posture.
Eclosure was on Sept 30, 2001.

The wingspan was about 2.8 cm / 1.1 inches.
