Clear-winged Tussock moth (Lymantriidae Perina nuda - Fabricius)

Found as a mature caterpillars and as cocoons in North Point in April, 1998.  They were feeding on Ficus microcarpa leaves.  They also feed on Ficus benjamina.


The larva was about 40 mm / 1.6 inches long.
 


The oddly patterned pupa was attached by
only a few silk threads to the upper leaf surface.

The male moth's wings are clear.
The male's wingspan is about 35 mm / 1.4 inches.
The female's wingspan is about 42 mm / 1.7 inches.
 


In rest position the male resembles a cicada.
