Tussock moth (Lymantriidae Euproctis spp (scintillans?) - Walker, 1856)

Found as a caterpillar on a Bauhinia tree at Braemar Hill, North Point, Hong Kong on December 2, 1998.  I found other larvae in the same area throughout December, 1998.  Since then, many other specimens have been found, feeding on Scheffleria Octophylla and other plants.

Lymantriidae caterpillar
Although I found the larva on Bauhinia, it seemed to prefer Schefflera.
The mature caterpillar was about 25 mm / 1 inch long.

From the antennae, this is probably a male.
The wingspan is about 23 mm / 0.9 inches.
