Banded Angle/Chestnut Angle  (Hesperidae, Odontoptilum angulatum - C. Felder, 1862)

The larvae feed on Microcos paniculata.  They can be found pretty much throughout the summer months.  The ones pictured were found the middle of July, 2000.  The pupa was formed on August 1st.

The 1st instar larva cuts a leaf flap and then folds it over, forming a protective, camoflaged tent.

As the caterpiller grows larger, so does its tent, but with holes!

The chrysalis is really beautiful, also hidden from view inside the tent.

The butterfly has a wingspan of about 3.5 cm / 1.4 inches.
