Inchworm moth (Geometridae Larentiinae Pseudocollix hyperythra)

Found a caterpillar at the top of Braemar Hill, North Point in April, 1999.  The nearly mature larvae was found feeding on Smilax in a communal group.  The single large leaf was pulled into a shelter structure in which 5 larvae dwelt and fed.  The whole was covered with silk, fras, and moldy leaf and was very messy and damp.
Although not shown here, the larvae were grayish green with a few darker spots regularly placed on the top, and were about 1 cm at maturity.

The moths emerged on April 29, 1999.

Wing span was about 17 mm / 0.7 inches.
