Queen (Danainae Danaus gilippus - )

Found as a catepillar in Scottsmore, Florida, on the milkweed, curassavica.  The female butterfly pictured below emerged in November.  The pupa below is another specimen.  The butterfly emerged the third week of January.


The wingspan was 80.4 mm / 3.2 inches.

  The pupa looks very like the Monarch pupa,
but much smaller, being about 20 mm / 0.75 inch long.
